Soooo Christmas off to a great start already. Friday,s quiet getogether pm in the Commodore is looking good. Christmas Eve the MTB pub crawl from Marks at 1300 is a goer,, we will go to the Somerleyton Dukes Head for starters and eventually end up in the Comode.(the trick here is to find a way to involve your better half and or kids) In any/every event hope you have a top Christmas holiday. Thursday after let's have a brick session, ride around town ( no crashes) and a 2 bridges run,, that,ll get the Christmas pud sorted.

Broads Authority Dragon Boat tax. They are trying a plaqueless tolls trial. In the event of a pullover verification is by Name.... Rock Dragon or registration marks 9238. The boat is registered in my name and the fee will be paid by the Rock Estate. The paddles are as usual at the chapel with Steve Barber and Lee Bircham. I learn today from Gable Events the Dragon Boat organisers that Russ has died after fighting cancer for a lot longer than the prognosis . He returned home to Australia just after steering the Rock Estate Runners & Riders to their 3rd victory. Russ steered us all 3 times and gave us great encouragement and expertise every time. He told me to win every heat so that he would steer the local crew in the final. He was a very friendly guy.

Just a few links for Joe's World Championships race in Motala in Sweden on Saturday. Starts 0800 GMT. Event website: This has a couple of links to live tracking and a web cast. Should be a 4km swim, 130km bike and 30km run. Let's hope the sea temperature stays cold so the swim should end up being about 1500 metres!!

Paul ran in the final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He came second in the 1996 Great North Run, third in the 1996 London Marathon, and won the 1996 Chicago Marathon in 2:08:52 which places him fifth on the UK all-time marathon list.

Team GB beat team USA last weekend in the international Kneeboard rider cup at White Rose waterski club, South Yorkshire. Simon Lewis taking joint 1st in his division in the Slalom, Owen Leiwis taking 1st in tricks and 2nd in slalom with Shaun Sampson taking 2nd in tricks in their division. Daniel Lewis wins the Flip out event and remains top of that leader board going into the Nationals in September.

Well done to Joe Skipper on a fantastic 2nd place at Ironman UK. Joe had a good swim and then did a controlled 112 mile ride that kept him in contention for the run. Joe was clearly running well from the start and smashed out a 2hr 48 min marathon to run through much of the Pro field. This was Joe's best result in a Ironman race. Results Here

Rock Estate Thursday ride. We will have the red and blue groups running this year. The Red will be on road bikes and will be at the usual challenging pace and distance. Blue will be on MTB and will be slower and visit the usual routes on and off road. We will be finishing at The Commodore for a debrief as per the Thursday rides of a couple of years ago.

We will be discussing the design of the Rock Estate cycling jerseys and running vests. Some people have created designs that we will look at. If you join Triathlon England as an individual member, you can get a discount on your membership by selecting the Rock Estate as your club. Benefits include reduced race entry (usually 5 per race) and various insurances. The cost is 40 which includes the club discount. Alternatively, British Cycling membership starts at 28 for Ride or 38 for Silver which gives insurance and other benefits. Rock Estate is not currently affiliated to British Cycling.

The Rock Estate is now affiliated to Cycling Time Trials (CTT). The CTT are the official body for time trialling in the UK. Rock Estate members can now participate as the Rock Estate in all open time trials.

The Rock Estate is now affiliated to Triathlon England. If you join Triathlon England as an individual member, you can get a discount on your membership by selecting the Rock Estate as your club. Existing Triathlon England members who want Rock Estate as their club can contact membership services ( Triathlon England individual membership gives benefits such as a race license (reduced race entry) and public liability insurance and accident legal assist whilst training.

Well done to Lee Cook & Jay Lingwood who have qualified for the 2014 European Duathlon Championships. Lee came 4th overall and won his age group with Jay 13th overall and 2nd in the age group. Leigh Butcher and Paul Hayward both had good races and finished within the required qualifying times. They are waiting to see if they have qualified as well. Results Here

Goochie has arranged a Circuits session at Whitton Green Primary School for Tuesday nights. This will start at 1830 hrs on 22nd October and be run by Steve (who used to do Kirkley Circuits). Come along for a hard circuits session to tone you up for 2014! If numbers are high enough, we will continue this through the Winter.

Mike Davies is taking part in the LEroica cycle event in Tuscany in Italy on Sunday. He is doing the 203 km ride through the glorious Tuscan hills and villages. Run mostly on strade bianche (white gravel roads) with classic bikes (pre 1987), woollen jerseys and fuelled by rich Italian food and Chianti wine. Sounds like the perfect ride! website here
